Weekly Update for 02/29/16

 Read Across America Week
February 29th - March 4th we will be celebrating "Read Across America" week.  We highlight the wonderful contributions Dr. Seuss made to children's literature and reading instruction.  We try to bring out the fun side of reading!  CAES is doing a spirit week to celebrate and would love for everyone in class to participate.  We will also do special AR drawings this weeks so please encourage your child to READ, READ, READ!

Monday, February 29   Featured Book:  What Pet Should I Get?
Bring in a stuffed animal or a picture of a pet YOU would get if you could have any kind of pet.
Tuesday, March 1         Featured Book:  Fox in Socks
Wear your silliest socks to school.
Wednesday, March 2   Featured Book:  Green Eggs and Ham
Today is Dr. Seuss' actual birthday.  Dress in as much green as you can or wear a ham shirt.  The cafeteria will serve green eggs and ham for breakfast if your child is interested.
Thursday, March 3      Featured Book:  Horton Hears a Who
Come to school with your best "who hair."
Friday, March 4           Book Character Day
Dress as your favorite storybook character and bring the book to school.

Language Arts: 
Reading Book Story:  The Riddles
Strategy: Determining Importance
Skill:  Realism versus Fantasy
Phonics:  Short E and Long E words  (/ee/ and /ea/ spellings); compound words; contractions (wasn't, hasn't, weren't)
Language:  Present Tense and Past Tense Verbs

Math: Addition/ Subtraction (SOL 1.5)

Social Studies: American Symbols (SOL 1.11)

Weekly Update for 02/22/16

 Read Across America Week
February 29th - March 4th we will be celebrating "Read Across America" week.  More details about this special celebration will be coming home this week.  Our week will be concluded on Friday with a Book Character Day.  Everyone is encouraged to dress up as their favorite character from a book and bring the book to share with the class.  I'm thinking about my costume...are you?
