“Salute to the Troops” Expo
Our class has been learning the music for our “Salute to the Troops” Expo on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:00.  A permission slip is attached to our Weekly Memo.  It is the hope that all 1st grade students will attend the expo.  A copy of the lyrics for our songs will be coming home on Thursday in our Graded Paper folders.  The hardest lyrics to learn are for the “Armed Forces Medley” and “Thank you Soldiers.”  If you would like a copy of the music to practice with, I can provide that as well. 


What are we learning this week?
Reading
1.7 Use semantic clues and syntax to expand vocabulary when reading. 
1.8 Expand vocabulary.
1.9 Read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fictional texts.
e) Ask and answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions about what is read. 
Writing SOL 1.13 The student will write to communicate ideas of a variety of purposes. 
c) Revise by adding descriptive words when writing about people, places, things, and events. 



Math
SOL 1.8 Money

The student will determine the value of a collection of like coins (pennies, nickels, or dimes) whose total value is 100 cents or less.

Weekly Update for 04/08/19


Relay for Life Benefit Week
This week we will be raising money for our Relay for Life Team.  Bring $1.00 each day that you would like to participate.  The following is list of the different days:
·       Monday:  Crazy Sock Day
·       Tuesday:  Crazy Hair Day
·       Wednesday:  Crazy Hat Day
·       Thursday:  Bring a stuffed animal to class

“Salute to the Troops” Thank You
Our class would like to thank Mrs. Woods and Mr. Alley for being speakers on Wednesday during our “Salute to the Troops” project launch.  It was great getting to learn about each of the branches of the military from all of the speakers.  Be on the lookout for words to the songs we will be performing during our expo on Wednesday, May 22.
