Language Arts
Isle of Wight County Schools has adopted a new reading program, which is from the American Reading Company. Our literacy block will include the following components: morning meeting, interactive read aloud, phonemic awareness, reader's workshop, centers, writing, music/drama, and frequent read-alouds. More information will be coming about the new reading program at the PTA Open House on Tuesday, October 11th.

Math
Our math lessons will begin each day with a spiral review
using components from the calendar and a whole group lesson.
Each day we will practice the whole group math skill during small group math rotations. This will also be a time when enrichment and remediation in math will take place. Below is a link to the Virginia Department of Education website where the first grade Math SOL's can be found.
Social Studies/Science
The Social Studies/Science curriculum this year will be
taught in units based on the first grade SOL’s.
