Weekly Update for 02/27/17



What are we learning this week?
Our research writing this week will focus on retelling stories.

Reading: 
SOL 1.9:  The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fictional texts.
f) Identify characters, setting, and important events.
g) Retell stories and events, using beginning, middle, and end. 
h) Identify the main idea or theme.

Writing:
The student will write to communicate ideas for a variety of purposes.
b) Focus on one topic.
c) Revise by adding descriptive words when writing about people, places, things, and events.
g) Share writing with others. 


Math: 
1.2 The student, given up to 110 objects, will
a) group a collection into tens and ones and write the corresponding numeral;
b) compare two numbers between 0 and 110 represented pictorially or with concrete objects, using the words greater then, less than or equal to; and
c) order three or fewer sets from least to greatest and greatest to least.

Weekly Update for 02/21/17

Because of Winn-Dixie Finale
Our school will be finishing up the One School One Book on Because of Winn-Dixie on Friday, February 24.  As a conclusion of this program we will be watching the movie as a whole school.  Everyone is invited to wear their pajamas on Friday as well.  This movie is rated PG due to thematic elements and brief mild language.  Please sign and return the permission slip giving your child permission to view the movie.  An alternate activity will be available if you are uncomfortable with your child viewing the movie.

e) Ask and answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions about what is read. 
f) Identify characters, setting, and important events.
SOL 1.13 Write to communicate ideas for a variety of purposes.

Writing:
The student will write to communicate ideas for a variety of purposes.
a) Generate ideas.
b) Focus on one topic.
c) Revise by adding descriptive words when writing about people, places, things, and events.
d) Use complete sentences in final copies.
e) Begin each sentence with a capital letter and use ending punctuation in final copies.
f) Use correct spelling for commonly used sight words and phonetically regular words in final copies.
g) Share writing with others. 


Math: 
SOL The student, given an ordered set of ten objects and/or pictures, will indicated the ordinal position of each object, first through tenth.
