Kids Heart Challenge 

This year CAES will be participating in the Kids Heart Challenge.  This challenge raises funds for research and educational programs to fight heart and stroke.  The American Hart Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance sponsor this event.  Last year our school raised $7,878.25.   Look for an information packet coming home in your child's agenda book on Friday.  Below is some important dates to keep in mind. 

•  Thursday, February 21st:  Jump Night
• Friday, February 22nd: Donation Envelopes Collected 

What are we learning this week?

Reading

1.7 Use semantic clues and syntax to expand vocabulary when reading. 

1.8 Expand vocabulary.

1.9 Read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fictional texts.

e) Ask and answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions about what is read. 

Writing SOL 1.13 The student will write to communicate ideas of a variety of purposes. 

c) Revise by adding descriptive words when writing about people, places, things, and events. 

Math

SOL 1.3 Ordinals 

The student, given an ordered set of ten objects and/or pictures, will indicate the ordinal position of each object, first through tenth.  The sets will be presented from:

·      left to right

·      right to left

·      top to bottom

·      bottom to top

SOL 1.2 Place Value 
The student, given up to 110 objects will

a)   group a collection into tens and ones and write the corresponding numeral

b)   compare two numbers between o and 110 represented pictorially or with concrete objects, using the words greater than, less than, or equal to; and

c) order three or fewer sets from least to greatest and greatest to least.
