Weekly Update for 02/04/19

Pencils Needed
We are in need of new pencils.  We have done a lot of writing over the first semester.  If you can, please send in a box of pencils to share with the class to help us get to the end of the school year. 

Valentine’s Day
We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Thursday, February 14th.  If your child would like to give Valentine cards to members of the class, please see the attached list of names.  Please make sure that your child has a Valentine for each child in the class.  We will be making a bag in class to put our cards in.


Kind Hearts are Happy Hearts Day
Also, on Valentine’s Day (February 14th) we will be participating in Happy Hearts Day.  Wear your red and pink and hearts.  If you have special hats or headbands that are in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, wear those too!  This is a Cardinal Spirit Stick competition. 

Kids Heart Challenge 
This year CAES will be participating in the Kids Heart Challenge.  This challenge raises funds for research and educational programs to fight heart and stroke.  The American Hart Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance sponsor this event.  Last year our school raised $7,878.25.   Look for an information packet coming home in your child's agenda book on Friday.  Below is some important dates to keep in mind. 
  • Thursday, January 31st: Kids Heart Challenge Kickoff
  • Friday, February 1st:  Donation envelopes sent home
  •  Thursday, February 21st:  Jump Night
  • Friday, February 22nd: Donation Envelopes Collected 

What are we learning this week?
Reading
1.7 Use semantic clues and syntax to expand vocabulary when reading. 
1.8 Expand vocabulary.
1.9 Read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fictional texts.
e) Ask and answer who, what, when, where, why, and how questions about what is read. 
Writing SOL 1.13 The student will write to communicate ideas of a variety of purposes. 
c) Revise by adding descriptive words when writing about people, places, things, and events. 



Math
1.6  The student will investigate the passage of time by telling time to the hour and half-hour using analog and digital clocks. 

1.15 The student will demonstrate an understanding of equality through the use of the equal symbol.
