Weekly Update for 10/14/19

Spirit Week

In support of Smithfield High School’s 
Homecoming Week, we will be mirroring 
their spirit week this year.  The schedule is as follows:
  • Monday, October 21 Sport Team Wear
  • · Tuesday, October 22 Wacky Tacky Tuesday
  • Wednesday, October 23 Unity Day – wear orange
  • Thursday, October 24 Twin Day
  • Friday, October 25 Blue and Yellow Day

Book Character Day/Halloween Celebration
 We will be having our Book Character Day/Halloween Celebration on Friday, November 1.  Please come dressed as your favorite book character.  Don’t forget to bring you book!  Our annual CAES Book Character Day Parade will be at 9:15. We will also have a Halloween Celebration that afternoon.  More information will be coming to those that have volunteered to help with our celebrations from Mrs. Hicks, Paisley’s mom.


What are we learning this week?
Word Talk: ending blends  -ck as in check, -mp as in jump, and -nt as in tent

Reading:
1.6a Use words, phrases, and sentences.
1.6c Use information in the story to read words.

Oral Language:
1.1f Follow rules for conversation, using appropriate voice level in small-group settings. 

Writing SOL 
1.12b Use prewriting activities to generate ideas.
1.12d Organize writing to suit a purpose. (Descriptive) 

Math SOL
1.11a The student will identify, trace, describe, and sort plane figures (triangles, squares, rectangles, and circles) according to number of sides, vertices, and angles.
1.11b The student will identify and describe representations of circles, squares, rectangles, and triangles in different environments, regardless of orientation, and explain reasoning. 

Social Studies SOL
1.13 The student will understand that the people of Virginia:
a) Have state and local government officials who are elected by voters.
b) Make contributions to their communities.
c) Include people who have diverse ethnic origins, customs, and traditions and are united as Americans.
