Weekly Update for 05/01/17

Plant Research Project
We are beginning our final research project for the school year this week.  Each student has selected a type of plant that he/she would like to study for their project.  During our research, we will focus what facts might persuade someone to buy each type of plant.  

What are we learning this week?
Our research writing this week will focus on the different parts of the plant and why each part is important.

Reading: SOL 1.10
The student will read and demonstrate a variety of nonfiction texts.

Writing: SOL 1.13 The student will write to communicate ideas for a variety of purposes.

Math: SOL 1.8
The student will determine the value of a collection of like coins (pennies, nickels, or dimes) whose total value is 100 cents or less. 

Science: SOL 1.4
The student will investigate and understand that plants have basic life needs and functional parts and can be classified according to certain characteristics.  Key concepts include:
  a) plants need nutrients, air, water, light, and a place to     grow
  b) basic parts of plants
  c) plants can be classified based on a variety of          characteristics

           Weekly Schedule
*Monday, May 1            Chorus

*Tuesday, May 2           Chorus 
1st Grade Chorus Program: Students need to be in the Music room at 6:30.  The Chorus Program will begin at 7:00.

*Wednesday, May 3         Music Resource 

*Thursday, May 4           P.E. Resource    

*Friday, May 5               STEM Resource
