Weekly Update for 02/12/18


Valentine’s Day Cards
We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 14.
Class Dojo. 
In an effort to help foster a “GREAT” classroom, we will begin using Class Dojo.  If you have not signed up for Class Dojo, please do so.  Let me know if you need another information sheet with your child’s specific log-in information.    
Food Drive
The SEARCH students are coordinating a school wide food drive. The non-perishable pantry items will be donated to the COP Food Bank to help our community.  Students may send in items beginning Monday, February 5.  The food drive will continue through Friday, March 9th.

IOW Comprehensive Plan.
Isle of Wight County is in the process of revising the IOW Comprehensive Plan.  The county has been conducting a series of public meetings to gather input from the community, which will be used to update the current plan.  The next public forum will focus on “Where and How Should We Grow?”  Please consider attending the last session to share your thoughts and ideas on the future of Isle of Wight County.  The meeting in our zone is Tuesday, Feb. 13at 3:30-5:00 and 6:30-8:00 in the Sentara St. Luke’s Medical Center Conference Room.


What are we learning this week?
Reading SOL 1.9 The student will read and demonstrate comprehension of a variety of fictional texts.
b) Set a purpose for reading.
e) Ask and answer who, what, where, when, why, and how questions about what is read.
f) Identify characters, setting, and important events.

Writing SOL 1.13 The student will write to communicate ideas of a variety of purposes. 
a) Generate ideas.
b) Focus on one topic.
c) Revise by adding descriptive words when writing about people, places, things, and events.
d) Use complete sentences in final copies.
e) Begin each sentence with a capital letter and use ending punctuation in final copies.
f) Use correct spelling for commonly used sight words and phonetically regular words in final copies.
g) Share writing with others.

Math SOL  Time
1.9  The student will investigate the passage of time and
a)   tell time to the hour and half-hour, using analog and digital clocks
b)   read and interpret a calendar
