*Book Character Day
We will be
celebrating Book Character Day on Wednesday, October 31. Students are encouraged to wear a costume
that represents a character from a book they have read, remembering that the
school dress code still must be followed.
The school-wide
Book Character Day parade will begin at 9:20.
You are welcome to join us as we join in a parade around the school to
celebrate all the great costumes.
*Halloween Party
We will also be
having a Halloween Party beginning at 1:00 on Wednesday, October 31. Mrs. Lufkin, Layton’s mom, has graciously
agreed to organize our celebration. If
you would like to contribute any items, and haven’t been contacted, please let
me know and I will connect you with Mrs. Lufkin.
*Food Permission Slip
CAES’ food policy
has changed in the past week. We are
allowed to have store-bought treats during our holiday celebrations. However, in order to make sure all students
are safe, a permission slip must be on file for each child stating that
families understand store bought items may be provided during parties. Please
complete and sign the form attached to your child’s agenda book by Wednesday,
October 31 to make sure your child can participate in our treats on Halloween.
*Reminder About Home Reading Steps
As we are logging
steps at school and at home, I want to remind families about what counts as a
step at home. When reading at home,
students are to write down only 2 books. Students may be reading more than one book, but
each step counts for 15 minutes of
reading. This can be confusing at
first but it is important to keep an accurate track of the amount of time students are reading, not the number of
books they are reading.
Each day students
read 30 minutes at school, which equals 2 steps. At home each night, students should be
reading 30 minutes, which equals 2 steps.
Students are logging at total of 4 steps daily. If you have any questions, please let me
know.
*Blacktop Resurfacing
First grade is
investigating possible projects for the grade to complete this year. One of the ideas we have is to create a more
inviting blacktop area. If anyone has
connections to someone or a company that could donate their services to
resurface the blacktop, please let me know.
