Weekly Update for 10/22/18

CAES Fun Run
We had our Fun Run on Friday, and had a blast.  If you haven’t made a donation already, please consider using the link below.  All donations must be made by Friday, October 26.  As of Sunday, our class has given $716.  The best part about this fundraiser is that the majority of the money donated goes directly back into our classrooms.  For more information please go to the site listed below.

Book Fair Volunteers
The PTA is in need of volunteers for the Book fair.  The book fair is from October 22 - 30.  If you are interested in helping, please contact Sarah Moore (sbmoore937@gmail.com).

Zoo Field Trip
The first grade will take a field trip to the Norfolk Zoo on Thursday, November 9.  The cost of the trip is free for all students.  A permission slip was sent home last week.  If you have not signed and returned the permission slip, please do so as soon as possible.

Animal Research Lab
This week we will begin our first research lab of the year, which is all about animals.  Students will select an animal that they are interested in studying in depth for the next 8 weeks.  As a class, we will learn to research answers to questions about each animal including the physical characteristics, life cycle, and other aspects of our animals.  Look for more information coming home in reading folders this week.

Blacktop Resurfacing
First grade is investigating possible projects for the grade to complete this year.  One of the ideas we have is to create a more inviting blacktop area.  If anyone has connections to someone or a company that could donate their services to resurface the blacktop, please let me know.
